From an early age Serena began to exhibit her paintings and drawing, and has exhibited in London, Scotland and Yorkshire. She has spent the last 10 years living on the edge of Dartmoor with her two children Kate and Tristan and husband Mark. Serena’s subject matter is a series of snap shots of “what is going on around her” here on Dartmoor. The weather and atmosphere of the moors is as varied perhaps as the people who live here. Views on Dartmoor can be both harsh yet tender and it too is struggling for survival as do many of the people who live and work here. Interestingly Serena appreciates that the lifestyle of people has a direct influence on the shape and character of their surroundings and visa versa (a persons surroundings influence their spirit, expression and appearance.) Serena can often be seen painting on Dartmoor, working directly from her subjects, rather than in a studio situation. Similarly she is well known by Exeter Livestock Market as a regular visitor, sketch book in hand. The auctioneer has been known to pause briefly to request to view her work. Please note: illustrations of the majority of work in exhibition will be available on 12th October 2007.
